Paris The strongest main tank in Russia impressed Rheinmetall boss Armin Papperger. In 2014 – when Russia was seen more as a partner by many in the West – he sat down himself. The Army, also known as the T-14, was designed to dominate the battlefield with its powerful armament and armor. In the same year, Russia launched the first attack on Ukraine and all cooperation on arms was therefore stopped.
As soon as he returned from his trip to Russia, Rheinmetall chief Papperger commissioned the development of a new tank that would be superior to the Army. Rheinmetall is now presenting it at the Eurosatory arms fair in Paris: for Papperger, the Panther KF 51 is the legitimate successor of the Leopard 2, the heavy tank of the Bundeswehr. “The Panther is superior to the Army in every respect, it penetrates its armor,” said the managing director of the Handelsblatt.
