The third Polestar will be an SUV

D.The Swedish branch of Volvo Polestar, launched in 2018, has now established itself on the market. With just one model, the China-built 2 electric sedan, the brand sold as many as 2,000 cars in Germany by the end of May. That’s more than what Alfa, Lexus, Jaguar or Subaru could each sell. Now the premiere of the Polestar 3, the first SUV model from China-Sweden, is announced for October. They are very consciously occupying this high-growth segment.

With the premiere, order books will be opened and production will no longer be just in China, but also in the US in Ridgeville, South Carolina, at the Volvo plant there from spring 2023. As a result, the US market is one of the focal points of sales. Listing on the Nasdaq stock exchange is also planned.

25 so-called Polestar Spaces spread across the country will offer customers services such as home test drives or a free pickup and delivery service. Polestar relies on direct sales, there are seven spaces in Germany, for example in Hamburg, Frankfurt or Berlin.

In terms of driving technology, the third Polestar – the first was a small series of a powerful sports coupe with plug-in technology – will be based on the second. The Polestar 3 will start with an engine on the front and rear axles and a battery that should allow a standard range of over 600 kilometers. The power should be 300 kW (408 hp).

The 3 debuts a new generation of Volvo Car Group electric vehicle architecture. Industry-leading connectivity features are promised, powered by Google’s Android Automotive OS infotainment system. Polestar is full of ambitions and not only announces number 4, a small SUV, for 2023, but also plans to increase annual sales tenfold by 2025 from the current 29,000 vehicles.
