Edeka: Branch throws cooking oil off the shelf – “There are limits”
Either it costs too much or it is out of stock – we are talking about cooking oil. TO Edeka and other supermarkets, if customers can get a bottle of the “luxury good”, they have to pay dearly for the precious drop.
Some markets want almost five euros for it. Yes, one Edeka-The market is putting an end to usury. However, the oil does not suddenly get cheaper here, it is immediately pushed out of the range.

“There are limits,” says the market operator of an Edeka branch in Trendelburg, northern Hesse. And it pulls with the current oil prices. “We will not sell sunflower oil for 4.99 euros per liter!” customers can read a note on the oil shelf in their shop.

“We distance ourselves from these prices and will not offer them any sunflower oil.” “I didn’t expect it to be such a success,” she says in an interview with RTL.
Edeka branch no longer sells sunflower oil – “Don’t run a black market”
Customer reactions are mostly positive. “Customers appreciate and understand it,” observes the store manager. Before that, however, there were also bad scenes between customers and employees. “If you knew what my employees have to listen to at the checkout.”
Not only did Anja Müller get little oil, the prices were outrageous and some customers took their anger out on employees. And the profit margin for them remained exactly the same. “I just want to do my daily business here – no black market,” she states bluntly. “I can’t reconcile it with my conscience.”
Edeka: No more sunflower oil to buy – now what?
The store manager can only hope that oil prices will normalize again in the future and that she can sell the products again. “As soon as we are able to buy goods at reasonable prices again, we will start selling them again. Until then, please move on to alternatives. “
