The prices of food and everyday products have recently increased enormously. If you still want to save at Aldi, Lidl and Co., you can always keep an eye on all the offers with the free “smhaggle” app.
Supermarket business must be earned. Sometimes product X is available for a very low price in one store, but for product Y you have to go to another supermarket. To find out what’s cheap and when, rummage through advertising brochures beforehand. This is no longer necessary with the smhaggle app, which does it automatically for you.
The name, which takes some getting used to, is made up of “clever” and “bargaining”, which mean clever bargaining. The creators of the app promise savings of up to 30% when shopping, which should be an average of 1,200 euros per family per year, sounds great at first.
Shopping list with price comparison
Launch the app and create a shopping list. However, it is in good hands on the smartphone. With a proximity search, you can always see exactly where your favorite products are cheapest. There is also a favorites feature, which you can use to keep an eye on the price trends of important products in a separate list.
The app always shows the exact price of the cart. Once the purchase is complete, users must photograph the receipt and share the information. Because it is only through this user feedback that the currently valid prices are entered into the app. Cashback campaigns are meant to motivate people to do so, for example there is currently a 5 cent credit for each supermarket coupon loaded, 10 cents for pharmacy receipts and 30 cents for hardware store coupons.
Additional offers and data protection
The app is smart, displays additional offers and, in addition to a targeted product search, it also allows you to navigate between categories. It is also possible to make targeted purchases for reseller offers, and products with a sustainability seal are also listed. All in all, the app offers useful information and a price comparison for the supermarket’s products.
But those who use the free app shouldn’t attach too much importance to data protection. The complete purchase data is shared with the app provider and combined with personal data to form a purchase profile. When using the app, the provider can track which product was purchased when and where at what price.
