Soccer – Cologne’s Baumgart: “Maybe I’ll use my reports” – Sport

Cologne (dpa) – Coach Steffen Baumgart reacted with humor to the rush on tickets for the last home match of the Bundesliga soccer club 1. FC Köln.

Around 200,000 ticket applications are said to have been received for the astonishing European Cup contenders match against VfL Wolfsburg on 7 May. “I am hearing this number for the first time. But then I have to let you know quickly, because I also need one or the other card. Maybe I can use my contacts as a manager there,” Baumgart said with a laugh.

“It’s nice that people have a lot of faith in us,” added the 50-year-old: “Against Wolfsburg, the stakes could be very high. It is clear that everyone in Cologne wants to be there.” Cologne football icon Lukas Podolski retweeted Baumgart’s statement and wrote: “#StadionAusbau”. He has been talking about it for many years in Cologne. The Cologne Arena currently hosts 50,000 spectators.

Before the game against Wolfsburg, seventh-placed players must overtake FC Augsburg on Saturday (15:30 / Sky). The goal is “to score as much as possible there to continue the new goal we have set for ourselves”. Captain Jonas Hector will be available despite being replaced after a head-on collision with Bielefeld’s Alessandro Schöpf last week. And Baumgart has also betrayed all of his eleven owners. The only open is who rages next to Anthony Modeste. “Otherwise there is no reason to keep anything under the mountain,” said the manager, who wants to play with only a six after Salih Özcan’s suspension.
