Ringel’s disease is often mild. A rash is typical of the disease. What does ringworm look like and what other symptoms can it cause?
The most important things at a glance
Curl disease, also known as infectious erythema by experts, is a contagious viral disease that mainly affects children between the ages of five and 13. But occasionally ringworm also occurs in adults. Symptoms are therefore often more severe than infections in childhood.
It is true that ringworm causes symptoms similar to rubella. However, the two viral infections are caused by completely different viruses.
If ringworm causes the first symptoms
In many cases, ringworm works completely without symptoms. Only about 15-20% of those affected are affected by the viral infection.
Sometimes ringworm occurs first with general symptoms that are more like a mild flu. This includes:
- mild fever (usually below 38 ° C)
- swollen lymph nodes
- Sore throat
- Joint pain (less common)
- stomach ache
- general malaise
What a ringworm rash looks like
After about two to five days, the typical ringworm rash develops, especially in children. Symptoms first appear on the face on both cheeks. Experts speak of a rash, characterized by clearly reddened areas of the skin. The mouth region, on the other hand, is rather pale and unaffected. The rash is usually large and resembles the shape of a butterfly.
