Recall: Certain Ferrero products are currently being phased out due to salmonella risk. Does that include baby chocolate and baby bars?
Cologne – After the great Ferrero recall, also from Rewe, consumers in Germany are asking themselves many questions. Especially which products are affected. Because classic children’s chocolate and children’s bars are particularly popular with many. Are batches of Rewe, Aldi, Kaufland and Co. also affected by the salmonella risk?

Ferrero recall does not apply to children’s chocolate and children’s bars
The Ferrero salmonella scandal has intensified in recent days. There is a major recall in many supermarkets in Germany, such as Netto, Edeka, Penny, Kaufland, Aldi, Lidl, Globus and Rewe. But this does not apply to every Ferrero product that is on the shelves of food companies. Incidentally, children’s chocolate and children’s bars are not interested, as a Ferrero spokesperson explains at the request of 24RHEIN. “The chocolate and children’s bars are not produced at the Arlon plant,” the spokesperson said. Only the Belgian plant was affected by the salmonella outbreak. There is therefore no danger with other “baby” products.

All “children’s” products manufactured at the Arlon plant in Belgium are affected by the Ferrero recall. The Rewe supermarket has now launched a major recall and warns against consuming more than 20 items containing baby chocolate. The EAN number can be used to determine exactly which Ferrero products are affected.
Where can I find the EAN VB number?
EAN stands for “European Article Number” and is used to label retail products. The VB EAN number is also the safest way to recognize if the products you have purchased are affected by a recall. The number is located under the barcode (s) and in most cases consists of 13 digits (8 digits for very small products). If the packaging has the same EAN number as that specified at the time of product collection, the product must not be eaten under any circumstances and can be returned.
Rewe callback: can you return Ferrero children’s products?
Rewe has stopped selling all products on the list and is asking all stores to remove relevant Ferrero items from their shelves. “We advise consumers who have purchased any of the affected products not to consume it,” Ferrero said in a recall posted by Rewe. Customers can also return goods without a receipt. According to Ferrero Germany, only products manufactured in Arlon, Belgium are affected by the salmonella epidemic.
Ferrero recall: Salmonella infestation as early as December 2021 – public prosecutor ascertained
It is now known that the Salmonella infestation occurred on December 15, 2021 at the Ferrero plant in Arlon, Belgium. According to its own statements, Ferrero responded by withholding related products. Additionally, the candy manufacturer is said to have replaced filters on two raw material tanks where the infestation was detected and increased product controls. However, Ferrero is now heavily criticized as the salmonella epidemic is taking on ever greater proportions.
The affected Ferrero factory in Belgium has already been closed, but that’s not the end of the story. Because now the Belgian prosecutor is investigating the confectionery giant Ferrero. The Afsca supervisory authority had already temporarily withdrawn the Ferrero production license for the Arlon plant on Friday (April 8) until all food safety rules and requirements were met.
