Nobody really understands these rules!
In Bundesliga home games, RB Leipzig displays the flag against the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, marking a peace sign on the pitch in the kick-off circle. In the Europa League the symbol of peace had suddenly disappeared!
When they won the semi-final first leg against Glasgow Rangers (1-0) on Thursday night, there wasn’t much of the peace sign left in the kick-off circle, only the old lines still glowed faintly. Last Saturday they were still clearly visible in the home game against Union Berlin.
BILD discovered it: the goalkeepers had to remove the chalk lines just before the game, on instructions from Uefa. In international competitions such as the Europa League, the European Football Association decides what the stadiums should look like.
Signs of peace yes or no: the topic had even entered the discussion of the organization of the day. This is how important it was for UEFA to remove him.
Behind it should be that there may be no political statements. But it is not understandable, after all, Uefa itself is against the war, and before the kick-off they had a poster posted on the lawn with the words “Peace” and the Russian word for peace, “Mir”.
