Coach Markus Weinzierl leaves FC Augsburg. The coach of the Bundesliga football team announced this decision after the last Bundesliga match against SpVgg Greuther Fürth (2-1) on Sky TV.
That was his “last game,” the 47-year-old said. For him it was the “right decision”.
Weinzierl informed the team of his move shortly after the final whistle. Players should be the first to know. Weinzierl stressed that there have been no talks with the club about his future.
Reuter not informed
Coach Stefan Reuter was unaware of his decision, the former Schalke manager said and showed glaring cracks in the relationship. “It wasn’t planned that way,” Weinzierl said. “My heart hurts too.” He wished he could have stayed in Augusta for a long time.
You have to “test everything” and also “challenge every position”, Weinzierl announced Thursday. “So far” there has been no talk of extending his contract. In the “next week” Weinzierl and FC Augsburg wanted to talk about the future.
“I also have a question or two which are then decisive,” said Weinzierl, giving examples: “What does the club want to achieve? What are the objectives? What are the requirements?” Staying against relegation is not enough for Straubinger.
“It is clear that you want more. That it is always a task to get above your budget, above your means,” explained Weinzierl, who has been at the helm of FC Augsburg again in his second term since April 2021. . And even during his early days, the relationship with Reuter was not free.
