In the Karstadt (Galeria) in the center of Bayreuth, the basement is undergoing redevelopment. Many residents will be happy: a supermarket will be built there. This was confirmed by Bernd Deyerling, who manages the projects for the Dutch investor Ashkenaz on site, at bt on Monday (25 April 2022).
The city center gets a new Rewe market. The full-range food retailer will cover an area of approximately 2,000 square meters in the Karstadt basement.
Rewe is new to Bayreuth
“We started the talks in 2012, it was far from easy to coordinate everything,” explains Deyerling. Now is the time. Work will begin soon – during ongoing operations.
“Karstadt’s basement is practically completely gutted,” says Deyerling. This is how Rewe’s requirements should be met.
A small shopping center will be built in the courtyard between the former Loher and the former Karstadt. “We also have a sales area of around 2,000 square meters available here,” says Deyerling. The next idea is already in place: “It would be nice if we could create a connection to the Eysserhaus Passage from here – practically parallel to the pedestrian zone, another Carée could open,” explains Deyerling. Because there are three possible entrances to the courtyard from Maxstraße.
