New fares: Avianca will soon offer only Business Class in Europe

The Colombian airline streamlines its offer. Only those flying to or from Europe with Avianca’s Boeing 787 will be able to book Business Class in the future.

Those who currently book a flight from Bogota to Miami with Avianca can choose between Economy S, M and L fares and XL and XXL business class fares. Those opting for business travel class can sit in one of twelve business class seats in a 2-2 configuration on the airline’s Airbus A319, A320 and A321.

The situation will change from 1 October Avianca will therefore offer only four Economy fares on its international flights in North, Central and South America: XS, S, M, L. This will eliminate Business Class, as has already happened in Colombia and Ecuador.

Business Class on Boeing 787 only

Avianca justifies the adjustment by stating that it wants to offer a “simpler product” that allows for “more competitive prices”. Business Class with the Boeing 787 XL and XXL fares will remain on flights to and from Europe only.

In addition to the new fare system, Avianca is currently introducing a new seating concept to its short and medium-haul fleet. These include the regular Economy seats and the so-called Plus seats, which are further forward in the plane and have more comfortable head restraints. The centerpiece, however, are the airline’s new premium seats.

The new row of premium seats is approaching

Half of the center seat disappears in the three-seater premium row. There is still a backrest, but instead of the seat there is a center console. This serves as a table and divider between the outer seats, the seating surfaces of which are consequently considerably wider.

When asked by aeroTELEGRAPH, a spokesperson for Avianca explains that the new seats can be freely combined with the new fares: “For example, a customer can make a reservation in the S fare and then select a paid premium seat”. In the XS and S fares, each seat reservation is subject to a fee. An economy seat can be reserved for free for M and L, while premium seats are subject to a fee.

Convert 50 Airbus A320s by October

Avianca allows you to combine the cheapest fare with the best seat on the plane. It wants to equip more than 50 Airbus A320s with the new seats by October.
