E-bikes from Husqvarna, a Swedish brand, are developed under the auspices of Pierer E-Bikes GmbH. After a few years, a completely new e-mountain bike sees the light. Everything about the new Husqvarna Mountain Cross MC has been redesigned, so to speak. The carbon frame has its own design and has integrated cooling, similar to what Haibike showed on the Flyon in 2018: here is a test, which is intended to effectively prevent the engine from overheating. In addition, the same bearings, axles and screw connections have now been installed everywhere on the OneFit rear triangle, all of which are compatible with each other.

Even before the acquisition of Husqvarna E-Bikes, Pierer E-Bikes recognized the brand’s potential to pave the way for electric mobility. The new Mountain Cross 6 is proof of that vision. It is a major step forward and a major turning point for the brand, we are excited to see what the future holds.

Hubert Trunkenpolz, CEO of Pierer E-Bikes GmbH

What else is new in the fully styled Husqvarna Mountain Cross MC? As with the Specialized Levo, for example, the battery is extracted from the frame and has a newly designed quick release closure. In order to get the most central center of gravity in the e-bike and space to remove the Sliding battery To create this, the motor was turned upwards and installed in an independent position, which counteracts overheating and avoids unnecessary energy losses.

Another detail is the size of the wheel. While the M, L and XL frame sizes are fitted to mixed size wheels, Husqvarna uses 27.5 ″ front and rear for the smaller S frame size.

Geometry

Husqvarna offers the Mountain Cross in four frame sizes. A special feature in this case: the smaller size S of the frame uses 27.5-inch wheels at the front and rear, while the other frame sizes are mullet. The geometry, like the carbon frame itself, has been completely reworked and puts the biker in the foreground. According to the manufacturer, the handling has been significantly optimized and you now sit more centrally and lower on the e-bike. The head angle measures a moderate 65.5 ° and the seat angle is approximately 77 °. The Reach and Stack values speak of a modern and comfortable geometry.

This protects the heat-sensitive lithium-ion cells and extends their life.

Engine and Akku

With the completely new Husqvarna MC, the manufacturer relies on a Shimano motor system, just like the previous model. The Shimano EP8 is used here, which works lively and powerful when driven with the right cadence. To avoid energy losses due to overheating, the motor was installed quite airy. Virtually independent, the small unit receives a lot of cooling air and can provide permanent support. A model with a capacity of 720 Wh is used as the battery, which is called the Core S3. It is removed from the down tube. To be able to do this quickly and easily, a new quick release latch has been developed here.
