InnoNature: Startup with natural products for an energetic and powerful life

Huge cost factor in the healthcare system: unhealthy nutrition.

The follow-up costs of unhealthy nutrition are enormous. According to a study by the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg and the biotechnology company Brain AG, food-related diseases cause annual costs of € 17 billion in Germany alone.

Diet-related diseases include:

cardiovascular disease

Diseases of the cardiovascular system are among the typical diseases of civilization in so-called industrialized countries – such as Germany. They are the leading cause of death.

Coronary artery disease (CHD), which is based on the narrowing of one or more coronary vessels, is of the utmost importance. Blockage of the coronary arteries causes a heart attack. Other major cardiovascular diseases are stroke and hypertension.

Diabetes mellitus (Type 2)

“Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease. The two most important forms are type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that occurs mainly in children and adolescents (juvenile diabetes). The body’s immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas and destroys them (absolute insulin deficiency). Type 2 diabetes is based on the reduced action of insulin (insulin resistance).

In 2007, more than 7 million Germans were treated for diabetes mellitus. This increase is mainly due to an increase in type 2 diabetes. “ (Source: RKI)

Adiposity (obesity) refers to the increase in body weight caused by a sharp increase in body fat with pathological effects. The result is a chronic health disorder with a reduced quality of life and an increased risk of disease and death.

A body mass index (BMI) is used as a guideline for determining overweight and obesity. BMI is determined as the quotient of weight and height squared: BMI = body weight (kg) / height ² (m²). From a BMI of 25 kg / m², adults are considered overweight – ab a BMI of 30 kg / m² as obese.

food allergy

Foods like eggs, nuts, or dairy products cause a variety of intolerances that aren’t always due to an allergy. Under a food allergy refers to an increased and specific reaction of the immune system to certain foods or food components (allergens).

Gastrointestinal diseases

Typical intestinal disorders are abdominal pain and persistent diarrhea or constipation. Usually the triggers are food intolerances, bacteria or viruses. The course is usually relatively harmless, as the symptoms disappear after a week or two.

Chronic bowel disease is associated with recurrent and sometimes persistent exacerbations and associated distress. The concrete reasons are often not identifiable and the causes of such diseases are largely inexplicable.

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are the two most common chronic inflammatory bowel diseases. The symptoms of the two diseases are very similar, although they occur in different regions of the intestine.
