In the direction of fun and sport: Skoda Fabia “Monte Carlo” with rally geniuses

Skoda Fabia “Monte Carlo” with rally genes

The Skoda Fabia is one of the most popular small cars in Europe. However, it is not a sporting gun. To transfer the touch of successful rally athletes to the Fabia, the VW subsidiary is now bringing back the sporty Monte Carlo version, available in previous Fabia models since 2011.

In the World Rally Championship, the lively Skoda Fabia is always good for a podium. Of course, the powerful all-wheel drive sports car has very little to do with the production car. The civil Fabia has more of the image of a well-behaved car for small families, but is also popular with more mature semesters. Now sports fans of all ages can once again access the 4.10-meter four-door that appeared in the spring. And you get a nominal rally feel like a logo on the side. “Monte Carlo” is there and also displays a stylized checkered flag. Multiple symbols are not possible.

The three-cylinder 150 HP of the “Monte Carlo” is also available in other Fabia equipment lines.

The famous “Monte”, after all one of the best known rallies in the world, is the favorite terrain of the impeccable power version of the Fabia, which is often on the top step of the world championship podium with this type of fast stick – and locomotion on stone. Of course, the bridge to high-performance sport should now be built with street cars for ordinary people. However, this is only partly due to the muscles under the short bonnet, as the 150hp three-cylinder already powers other Fabia versions.

It all depends on the design

It depends on the special design. The black finish of the sills, the radiator grille, the exterior mirror housings, the 16-inch aluminum wheels or the so-called rear diffuser lend a sinister sporty spirit. Up front, this Fabia flashes from the LED headlights. The color of the roof also makes a difference, because here the paint finishes that can be ordered are always combined with black. The interior features sport seats, a sporty design leather steering wheel and pedals in a stainless steel look. The basic tone of the interior parts is obviously pitch black again, but is embellished with bright red decorative stripes on the dashboard, above the side door racks or on the center console. Ambient LED lighting creates the right mood even in cloudy weather and at night.

Red accents in the interior characterize the Fabia, among other things, as “Monte Carlo”.

It gets even better outside of cities and towns. Sport mode takes over during the first lap of the plant in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. Now the dual-clutch transmission turns its seven gears higher, the sound swells but never goes tinny despite the modesty of the three-cylinder . The Fabia does justice to its looks, changing the bread-and-butter determination in the direction of fun and sport.

It is amazing what is possible

Amazing what such small machines can do today. Convincing brakes, directional stability in all kinds of curves and the driver’s gift of letting out the proverbial bristles that must stay in the stable in everyday life. Later in Eco or Normal mode, the Fabia turns into an everyday car again, can pack a lot in relation to its external dimensions and saves a long search when looking for a parking space. In addition, the Monte Carlo is properly equipped and can be upgraded with various packages, such as assistance systems. Which then, however, further increases its base price of 26,400 euros.

Back in the factories, half an hour by car from Prague, there is still the official appointment for the “Monte Carlo”. He is the godfather of his older brother, the new Fabia RS Rally2, which is expected to score professional points next season. However, this racing car has a two-liter turbo engine, 289 HP, a torque of 430 Newton meters and all-wheel drive. If you want to buy it, you should blow up the famous Monte Carlo casino first. The super sports car costs around 190,000 euros.
