Hertha feels cheated of the save point!
With a draw in Dortmund, the Berliners would have saved themselves. But BVB gave Hertha a 2-1 lead and sent the opponent into relegation.
One of the reasons for Dortmund’s victory: the controversial 1-1 penalty in the meantime. Ascacibar only blocks a free kick from Guerreiro with the shoulder of his right arm. The ball then hits Plattenhardt’s outstretched left arm from a short distance, not expecting the abrupt change of direction.
Referee Tobias Stieler (40) looks at the scene again on the monitor and then considers Plattenhardt’s handball punishable. Haaland converts the following penalty.
From a purely technical point of view, the penalty whistle is hard, but justifiable (increased body area, significantly changed the direction of flight of the ball). However, Hertha goes on a rampage over the 911! Again, the rule of the hand is the basis for Zoff.
Coach Felix Magath (68) angry: “It has nothing to do with sport, certainly not with football!”
Sports director Fredi Bobic (50) on Sky: “This is a crazy rule! The ball is deflected and he (Plattenhardt, ed) cannot react.
Then it comes for very thick Hertha. Moukoko reverses the game for BVB (84th), seven minutes later Stuttgart score 2-1 against Cologne in the parallel game – and the Berlin team are relegated.
Bobic: “The boys are down, completely exhausted. We have two games. You have to have the faith to make it through these two games. This will be the main task of rebuilding the team.”
Magath: “When you looked today, you couldn’t say we couldn’t take the pressure. We were wrong in defense, otherwise we defended well.”
And once unlucky …
