Now it’s official!

Marcel Franke (29) leaves Hannover 96 after three years. The captain’s contract expires. 96 did not present him with a new offer.

Frank says goodbye.

On Instagram he posted an emotional message to his fans on Monday night. The defense giant would have liked to stay in Hanover.

His post: “It is with a heavy heart that I will leave the club and this big city after three years. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you! You have accompanied us beautifully in this mixed season. Unfortunately, we cannot always give you back what you deserve. the way you supported us during a very difficult phase of the last few weeks has been fantastic! “

And also: “My family also felt very comfortable here. My two daughters were born here in Hanover, which is why this city has become so special to us and will be remembered forever. Dear fans, dear Hannover, thank you for everything! Your Franky. “

The “big one”, Julina, is two years old. Mara was born in early December. A week ago, Franke’s wife, Jenna, had already indicated the approaching farewell, also posted on social media: “My heart bleeds at the thought of leaving the city where our children were born”.

Franke, who is currently building a house in Dresden, came to Hanover in 2019. He has played 81 of 96 competitive matches (no goals) and has been captain since the start of the season. More recently, he was absent due to a strained hamstring.

Franke received an offer from Karlsruhe. KSC manager Christian Eichner recently praised: “He is a good player. A powerful, a true second division defender”.

Franke forgoes 96 and already has his sights set on a successor in Phil Neumann (24 / Kiel). The change is expected to be announced in the coming days.
