Formula 1 live ticker: short term DRS adjustment in Miami

Minor adjustments to DRS zones in Miami

No wheels have turned in Miami yet, but the leaders of the World Automobile Federation (FIA) have again implemented the changes to the three DRS zones.

– Zone 1: The measuring point after curve 8 has been moved back seven meters. The activation of the DRS can also take place 37 meters before, i.e. shortly after turn 9.

– Zone 2: The measuring point after Turn 16 on the back straight has been moved forward by three meters.

– Zone 3: The measuring point in curve 17 has been moved four meters forward.

The sketch of the Mercedes track gives an idea of the new Formula 1 circuit and the three DRS zones are also shown on it.

More tomorrow!

And that’s it for Formula 1 Thursday from Miami. Stefano Ehlen thanks for your attention today! As usual, my colleague Ruben Zimmermann will take over from the live ticker tomorrow and I will return to the session live ticker for the rest of the event in Miami. So, until then, have a good evening!

Because Mercedes drives with a colored rear wing

The Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are driving in Miami with colored rear wings, and there is a reason: together with sponsor FTX, the team wants to auction the rear wings used in the US race after the weekend and donate the proceeds to a good cause.

The brightly colored design on the Mercedes rear fenders comes from the artist Mad Dog Jones.

2023: How Gasly envisions the future

Pierre Gasly could change squad for the 2023 season and return to Red Bull or completely turn his back on the energy drink company. He is asked if he has already thought about it more.

The Frenchman responds evasively and is the first to address the current situation at AlphaTauri in the 2022 season. “What is most important to me is to do my best with the car I have. I want to feel like I am doing my best with the material. I have”.

Off the rails, of course, he’s thinking about what his future might be like. “My situation is clear, I have ambitions,” says Gasly. “There is an interest. There are talks with Red Bull and AlphaTauri on how to proceed.”

For the moment, however, he cannot say much more about it, other than: “The right decision comes at the right time”.

Gasly foresees “many overtaking maneuvers”

My colleague Adam Cooper just spoke to Pierre Gasly. The first was the Miami circuit, which according to Gasly “looks fast”. His verdict: “There are two very long straights and it’s fantastic because we will probably see a lot of overtaking.”

The biggest driving challenge is the first sector with many fast corners. Round 7 in particular inspires him with respect, says Gasly. “There it goes almost endlessly to the left. You can’t see the corner exit from the cockpit. The tires suffer a lot at this point.”

According to Gasly, a question mark is the entrance to the pits at Turn 19 (see photo). A chicane makes it more difficult for the drivers to turn there. “It’s tight,” Gasly says. “It all depends on how much you can cut the corners. We tried it in the simulator. If you can cut the corners a little bit, it’s easier. But if we can’t touch the white line, it should be quite difficult.”

Bottas also got lost

Valtteri Bottas didn’t have to go as far as McLaren boss Brown to have his special “date” before the Miami Grand Prix: he went to the Miami Dolphins from the US NFL football league and got a taste of it Football crack training.

McLaren boss Zak Brown has ab

Before the Formula 1 race in Miami, McLaren boss Zak Brown took off, with US Navy stunt drivers, the so-called Blue Angels. He received a 45-minute demonstration flight with two “screws” at an estimated speed of 650 km / h, loops were also included in the program. The highest load for the Griffin Stangel and Brown pilots is said to have been 7.4g.

It is not known how well Brown coped with high-speed flight. On most of the images, however, the McLaren boss makes a happy impression …

Video: Formel-1 countdown in Miami

It won’t be long before the Miami International Circuit is officially inaugurated by Formula 1. And here comes the “countdown” from Sky TV with some updated information on the first American race of the year!

Final preparations: the countdown to Formula 1 in Miami is underway

For the first time ever, Formula 1 races over a weekend in Miami. The final preparations are underway.

Pirelli declares the ‘conservative’ choice of tires for Miami

For the first Miami Grand Prix, the Formula 1 supplier Pirelli has nominated the C2, C3 and C4 tire compounds, the mid-range compounds. You could also say: these are the standard tires of Formula 1, because most of the time C2 to C4 are used together.

Why also in Miami? Pirelli sporting director Mario Isola explains: “With a new track, we always tend to be conservative. It will be exciting to see to what extent the real data correspond to our simulations.”

Since the Miami International Racetrack was watered ahead with high-pressure jets, the track should “offer good grip from the start,” says Isola. “And since the cars are probably running with low to medium downforce, we might see some slips in the fast corners, especially with the hard compound.”

Even without the help of Ferrari: Ilott returns to Alfa Romeo

Former Ferrari junior Callum Ilott reappeared in the Formula 1 paddock, and at Alfa Romeo, where he had already been active as a test driver and reserve driver at the time of Ferrari. Ilott is in the same role in Miami, but this time Ferrari is no longer in charge of it. “He’s just one of us,” team boss Frederic Vasseur said when asked.

In the 2022 season, Ilott will be present as a replacement driver whenever Robert Kubica is unable to be active due to other commitments, such as this weekend, where Kubica will compete in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in Spa. “We don’t have not even need a contract for that, “continues Vasseur. “Callum is a family, after all.”

The Brit actually had a completely different orientation for 2022: Ilott drives in the IndyCar series in the US and is currently not pursuing any Formula 1 plans. “At least I’m not actively looking for a spot. I have a good career ahead of me in IndyCars. , but if something turns up [in der Formel 1]then good. “

GOAT-Treffen in Miami

Two GOATs meet in Miami – at least the title “Greatest of All Time” is sometimes awarded to Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton and NFL superstar Tom Brady. Before the first American competition of the year, the two met to play golf. We don’t know if they understand golf as well as their normal profession …

Not everyone runs the Miami Trackwalk

At nearly 30 degrees Celsius and 5.4 kilometers long, not all Formula 1 drivers tackle a track in Miami. Valtteri Bottas switched to cycling, just like Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez. However, most of the drivers have so far traveled the circuit to get a detailed picture of the temporary track. And it still is the weather is perfect in Miami, but it can change (selectively) in the next few days …

Formula 1 and Netflix continue

We have just received the message that the “Drive to survival” Formula 1 series will continue. Formula 1 and streaming provider Netflix have extended their deal by two more seasons (numbers five and six). The fifth season will be shot in the 2022 season and will be released in the spring of 2023.

The “Drive to survival” format premiered in 2019 and brought many new fans to Formula 1, especially in North America, but not only there.
