Felix Kroos is about to play his first match at the new club. But instead of going to the Bundesliga, the former pro is an amateur. With Fortuna Pankow he wants to take a new step.
After Rostock, Bremen, Union and Braunschweig, now it’s up to Berlin-Pankow: Felix Kroos is about to make his debut in his new club, FSV Fortuna Pankow 46. The 31-year-old is starting a new chapter with the district championship team – after starting the his professional career in the summer had declared 2021 over.
“Amateur clubs are neglected”
With the “Felix Kroos Club Challenge” created by him and his brother Toni Kroos, the two footballers were looking for a new club for their younger brother via their joint podcast “Einfach mal Luppen”. Kroos wanted to stay fit despite the end of his professional career. To do this, he wanted to draw attention to amateur sport.
“Professional football outshines everything, amateur clubs are mostly neglected. But they don’t just make a sporting contribution, they also make an exceptional social contribution,” explained his commitment. In this way, a small contribution must be made to “give a little more limelight” to amateur sport.
And on Sunday 15 May 2022 the time has come: Kroos wears the number 23 for the first time with a Fortune suit. In the home game against SC Schwarz-Weiß Spandau, the first few minutes of play should be on an amateur level, in his favorite position in the control center in midfield.
