FC Bayern’s 2-2 draw against VfB Stuttgart proved that record champions Serge Gnabry must resist at all costs and, if necessary, sell Leroy Sane. Tanguy Nianzou doubts he will make the turn. And with the current defense, next year will be difficult. The theses of the game.
1. Bayern must definitely stretch with Gnabry
Three shots on goal, three assists, forced to draw 1-1 (own goal by Mavropano) and begins the 2-1 with the penultimate pass. No question: Serge Gnabry was one of FC Bayern’s top attacking players in the 2-2 win against VfB Stuttgart. An extension of the contract with the national team beyond 2023 is mandatory for record champions for three reasons.
- Gnabry isn’t immune to some slacks either, but overall it consistently delivers. He has so far scored at least ten goals in each of his six Bundesliga seasons. He currently has a decent 27 points as a scorer in 44 competitive games. His 14 Bundesliga goals this year mean a new personal best.
- Gnabry is of primary importance to the cabin climate. Kimmich, Goretzka, Gnabry, Süle and Sane are considered to be great friends. With Süle, a popular member of the gang leaves the Borussia Dortmund club already at the end of the season. Nobody wants to imagine that Gnabry can pack his bags as well as the central defender. “Serge played well today and is an exceptional player. He is a very important part of our team, much more than a teammate”, enthuses Goretzka when asked. SPOX and OBJECTIVES. And again: “He has become a good friend over the years. It is no secret when I say that I have known him since I was a boy too. We grew up together. Obviously I hope for his extension.”
- Sporty AND economically there is hardly any alternative to Gnabry anyway. At every opportunity, the leaders point out that in the future they will have to tighten their financial belts. Bayern should dig deep into their pockets for successor candidates like Nkunku of Leipzig or Antony of Ajax Amsterdam. An extension with Gnabry, also at the top of his salary, seems more convenient.
sea sporty image FC Bayern Gnabry recently made an improved offer. It should therefore be able to earn between 17 and 19 million euros. For comparison: it is said that it is currently raising around eight million euros per season. With the salary increase, it would rise to the highest levels around Kingsley Coman (presumably around € 17 million) and Sane (presumably around € 20 million). Gnabry hasn’t accepted the offer yet.
“We have limits,” said sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic when asked about Gnabry’s contractual situation. “It’s up to him to decide. The boy is fantastic, I like him a lot. I’d like to keep him.” However, Bayern did not set a deadline for the right winger, as was the case with David Alaba. Instead, further discussions should follow. Salihamidzic: “Serge must feel comfortable with him. We talked a lot with him and the management about him, we are ready to continue to do so and we will do it too. Obviously we hope to be able to do it”.
If finances are the tipping point in the end, managers should think about selling Leroy Sane in order to keep Gnabry with the funds that are then released. Because unlike Gnabry, Sane no longer appears from her low form, which has lasted for months …
