Cost shock for Mitgas customers! The gas supply has drastically increased gas prices since the summer. One of the reasons is the war in Ukraine.
Chemnitz – Hammer cost a natural gas! Mitgas Mitteldeutsche Gasversorgung GmbH customers will have to pay significantly more for natural gas starting in July.
As announced by the company on Friday, the consumer price will be increased by 4.25 cents per kilowatt-hour (gross) to 13.32 cents.
Put simply, this means that the gas bill of a private customer with an average consumption of 18,000 kilowatt hours will be 2018 euros for 2022 instead of the previous 1713 euros, or about 100 euros more.
The base price of 80.33 per year remains. The reason given was the sharp increase in procurement costs. The situation on the wholesale energy markets remains tense: “This development has been further intensified by the war in Ukraine”.
Chemnitz district manager wants to be mayor
At the same time, Mitgas currently supplies many more customers. This is mainly due to the fact that layoffs have decreased compared to previous years. In addition, due to the ongoing corona pandemic, there is greater consumption of natural gas, especially by private customers who work from home.
Additional volumes of gas should have been purchased at currently very high market prices. Approximately 55,000 private and commercial customers are affected. The network area includes parts of the federal states Brandenburg, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt And Thuringia.
“Even as an energy supplier with a solid and forward-looking purchasing policy, which has enabled us to keep price increases low in the interest of our customers, we do not spare ourselves the situation in the long-term markets. We are aware of the burdens that arise. The increase in energy prices entails for the people, aware that we, as regional suppliers, have no influence on the current situation of the wholesale markets “, explained Mitgas managing director Andreas Auerbach.
Mitgas wants to inform all affected customers in writing in the coming days. The company trades natural gas, natural biogas and heat and offers energy services. It is also a pre-supplier for municipal utilities in the region.
The main shareholders of Mitgas are Envia Mitteldeutsche Energie AG with 75.4% and VNG Verbundnetz Gas AG with 24.6%.
