Burgstaller bankruptcy: who’s chatting at FC St. Pauli Internals?

Guido Burgstaller had imagined his 33rd birthday very differently. Instead of fighting for three points with FC St. Pauli against his former Nuremberg side and chasing goals, the striker was destined to watch Friday night and had to attend the stadium in civilian clothes when the Kiezkicker scored the draw 1: 1 and lost a well-deserved victory.

Ironically, in the hottest phase of the fight for promotion, a muscle injury paralyzed the Kiezkicker top scorer (18 goals this season). For the first time this season, the Austrian misses a match. “It’s a real shame,” said president Oke Göttlich in an interview with Sky before the match and called Burgstaller’s failure a “totally stupid situation”.

It is questionable whether Burgstaller could be there again against Schalke and Düsseldorf. Göttlich is cautiously optimistic: “At the moment we don’t take it for granted that he will miss all three games.”

The fact that the failure soon made its way to the public – and thus also to the grateful opponent – and, as the club is convinced, that several internal issues have recently been initiated, causes great anger in the club. Individual players, Göttlich criticizes, put their well-being above that of the team.
