Cologne manager Steffen Baumgart has confirmed the imminent signing of Linton Maina. “Linton is a good player and that’s what it’s all about. We don’t have to build up the pressure right away. He has had a year or two where he struggled because he was advertised in Hanover and then went through a minimum. We think he will strengthen us in attack. “Baumgart said on the talk show “Loss mer schwade” (quoted via “Express”).
Maina moved to Cologne from Hannover 96, a second division team, on a free transfer. Several first division clubs have shown interest in the 22-year-old winger. Baumgart says: “With Kainzi (Florian Kainz, ed) on our side, we have two different players. We hope to be able to integrate his strengths well and we can’t wait to see him.”
Luca Kilian is also expected to continue playing in Cologne next season. The central defender on loan can be signed by Mainz 05 via a buy option. “The two million are here. I assume so, because I’ve been insisting on this for six months.”Baumgart suggests that FC will choose the option.
What will become of Timo Horn?
Meanwhile, left-back Jannes Horn (27) and striker Louis Schaub (27) will leave the club, whose contracts are about to expire: “Jannes Horn has not received a contract offer, the contract is expiring. Same with Louis Schaub.
There is a question mark about the future of Timo Horn (29), who lost his regular spot in goal to Marvin Schwäbe (27). Baumgart says: “He is one of the locals and stands alongside FC. Although not everyone has noticed: Timo took a step forward this year with (goalkeeping coach) Uwe Gospodarek. […] I assume it will stay, because I expect everyone to stay. Marvin and he are in a duel.
