For Android users, there is now a big restriction on Amazon: e-books, audiobooks and music can no longer be purchased from Samsung and Co. via the shipping giant’s app. This rule has been in effect for iOS for about ten years.
Until now, Android smartphone owners have been able to easily download eBooks and audiobooks via the Amazon app. However, this should soon be over, as ArsTechnica reports. The options for purchasing and lending Kindle eBooks and Audible audiobooks are therefore no longer possible with immediate effect.
Owners of an Apple iPhone or iPad have been used to this restriction for a long time. It has not been possible to download here since 2011.
If you want to download an eBook or audiobook via the app, you will receive a warning that purchasing via the app is no longer possible. Instead, you should create a list and then purchase the content through the browser.

The new restriction for Android devices, however, has the same motive as Apple a decade ago. The background are new guidelines in the Google Play Store. Similar to iPhone makers, Google now wants to take action against providers who don’t comply with the new rules. In particular, these are the commissions, which generally are around 30 per cent.
As is well known, it is no longer possible to purchase songs and albums via Amazon Music in the Android app. Here, too, Amazon recommends doing this from now on via the browser.
